I should have made this post a long time ago.
Here are a few ideas for the Story Time Readers at Ridge Crest, or wherever you may be.

Tell Me a Scary Story...But Not TOO Scary. By Carl Reiner
The book comes with a CD if you don't want to read it to the kids yourself.
Extra: I had a plastic ping pong ball that was made to look like an eyeball (I it got during Halloween at Walmart, or Target, or someplace like that). I dropped it on the way to the front of the class for an added "ooh..." moment. Just believe me, it went along great with the book.
Treat: Chocolate eyeballs...I bought mine from Harry and David. You can also makes some by cooking a brownie mix according to the box instructions. Once the Brownies cool, scoop about a tablespoon full out and roll them into balls. Dip them in white chocolate or almond bark (I like the almond bark the best). Push an M&M into it far enough that it will stay in place. It will look like an eyeball. For added effect, use the red writing gel and add squiggly lines for veins to give it a blood shot look.
And because I'm behind on posting these ideas, here's another:

How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen
Activity: Scholastic has an activity you can access
HERE
Treat: Make brownies from a mix according to the box directions. Let cool, then scoop out about a tablespoon of cooked brownie. Roll into ball. Continue until you have used all the brownies or have enough for your class. At the end of the book, ask the students if they would eat broccoli if their mom cooked it for them. How about spaghetti? Squid? Rotten prune juice? What if she made you something that looked like this? (And pull out the brownie balls). Talk to them about how something might not look good, but just might be if you just try it (but don't try rotten prune juice). I'd say don't try squid either, but some of you may like it.
