Story Time Readers

I should have made this post a long time ago.

Here are a few ideas for the Story Time Readers at Ridge Crest, or wherever you may be.

Tell Me a Scary Story...But Not TOO Scary. By Carl Reiner
The book comes with a CD if you don't want to read it to the kids yourself.

Extra:
I had a plastic ping pong ball that was made to look like an eyeball (I it got during Halloween at Walmart, or Target, or someplace like that). I dropped it on the way to the front of the class for an added "ooh..." moment. Just believe me, it went along great with the book.

Treat:
Chocolate eyeballs...I bought mine from Harry and David. You can also makes some by cooking a brownie mix according to the box instructions. Once the Brownies cool, scoop about a tablespoon full out and roll them into balls. Dip them in white chocolate or almond bark (I like the almond bark the best). Push an M&M into it far enough that it will stay in place. It will look like an eyeball. For added effect, use the red writing gel and add squiggly lines for veins to give it a blood shot look.

And because I'm behind on posting these ideas, here's another:

How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen

Activity:
Scholastic has an activity you can access HERE

Treat:
Make brownies from a mix according to the box directions. Let cool, then scoop out about a tablespoon of cooked brownie. Roll into ball. Continue until you have used all the brownies or have enough for your class. At the end of the book, ask the students if they would eat broccoli if their mom cooked it for them. How about spaghetti? Squid? Rotten prune juice? What if she made you something that looked like this? (And pull out the brownie balls). Talk to them about how something might not look good, but just might be if you just try it (but don't try rotten prune juice). I'd say don't try squid either, but some of you may like it.

A Gray/White Day

Another blog post complaining about the winter...oops weather? Not exactly, keep reading.
First of all, yes, we had huge white flakes, fluffy ones, falling from the sky today. "It's beginning to look alot like"...I won't say it.

So as we're driving to the oral surgeon today, I flip open the visor to see exactly how rough I look after a long day, what do I see?
I plucked it to examine it a little closer. It had to be blonde! I needed a second opinion. I passed the hair back to the kids in the back seat. All four looked at it pretty close. One child even went cross eyed looking at it so close. You're wanting to know the verdict right? In Emma's words, "Mom, I don't think it's gray. I think that's white! Sorry, mom."

That's Classic

Each Friday is a sleep out night for my kids. As long as they clean the basement, they get to sleep out in the movie room and watch a movie, or two.

I've been on a "classic" movie kick lately.
I like to get them "older" movies to watch, such as, Mrs. Doubtfire, E.T., Annie, Karate Kid, and Savannah Smiles.
Can you think of any other older movies? I'm running out of ideas

Run, Forrest, Run

I've mentioned in the past that I like to read (and laugh) at the police log that is published in our newspaper.
This one was titled "I Don't Want to Marry You". Apparently there was a man on a motorized scooter that kept yelling at a lady that he wanted to marry her, so she called the police.
Could she not run faster than the scooter? Maybe she was on one herself and his was faster.
